Night Golf - 11.5.25

Where: Escambia Recreation Center, Outside Pavillion (to the right side of the buildings).

When:  Wednesday November 5th 2025 at 4:30pm.  Pizza (and hopefully ice cream) to be delivered by 5:00pm (Sunset is 5:39pm).  We will try to tee-off shortly after 6:00pm.

Who: Any member of The Villages Ski Club and their spouse/partner/better-half/(whatever the politically correct term is).  Guests will be allowed if space available.

How Much: $10 per person, cash only to be paid at Pavillion. Yes, prices went up due to tariffs on Leesburg.  You can also give Jeff a tip (really a Club donation) and the highest tipper will get one free Mulligan!

         Editor’s Note:

The term "mulligan" in golf originates from at least two different golfers whose last name was Mulligan in the 1920s and 1930s, with the most accepted story pointing to Canadian hotelier David B. Mulligan, who played in Montreal, and the other to John A. "Buddy" Mulligan, a locker room attendant in New Jersey. In both cases, these men were given an extra chance after a bad shot by their playing partners, and the do-over was subsequently named a "mulligan" in their honor

Food/Drink: Pizzas will be ordered for everyone (no complaining about not having a Hawaiian Jalapeno Cheese-filled Sicilian Crust Pizza. We’re hoping to have ice cream available as well.  Drinks are on you and alcoholic drinks are strongly recommended and extras to be had during the round are strongly encouraged (e.g. bring a pitcher of drinks), Bloody Mary’s are always a good choice and have been proven to help your game!

How to sign up:  Simply click the link below (which will redirect you to google forms signup)

How Night Golf is Played:

  1. We will be using the forward Green Tees for all holes.

  2. It will be a shotgun start, and your Team number is also your starting tee.  A shotgun start means each team will start simultaneously at their respective starting tee, when the shotgun goes off.

  3. Everyone starts from the Green Tee Box, and then the team choses the best shot to play the second shot from.  Simply mark the spot of the best shot with a golf tee or marker (perhaps something that glows) so that all of your team know where to play your next shot from (don’t forget to pick up your marker after the last player hits).  Repeat until someone puts the ball in the hole.  There are NO GIMMIES under any circumstances!!

  4. There will be glow sticks or something else glowing at the side of the green tee box, attached to the top of the flag stick and inside the golf hole.

  5. We will be using Glow in the dark balls which can be purchased from Belle Glade and Glenview CC pro shops or can be found on Amazon for less (remember - you can still lose a glowing golf ball).  Some glow balls are hit on a hard surface to light them up (spouse’s head?), while others require UV light (flashlight) to light up, plus I see some online that you use your cell phone to control.  It’s up to you to decide what type you’d like.  (Amazon has some basic ones at approx $12 for 3 or $24 for 6.  Just search "glow in dark golf balls")

  6. All teams will play all 9-holes. Your last hole to be played will be your starting hole number minus 1.  If you start on hole 6, you will play the holes in the following order: 6,7,8,9,1,2,3,4,5. If you start at hole #1 you will need advanced calculus to determine your last hole.

  7. Everyone must ride in a golf cart (everyone will be assigned to a team).  If you don’t have a cart or prefer not to drive at night, we will accommodate you as a passenger in another cart.  No RA passes will be honored, so you have to stay on the cart paths at all times and walk to retrieve your ball or to play the team ball. Do NOT drive your cart off of the cart path!

  8. Golf Cart headlights should be turned on ONLY while the cart is in motion.  Turn them off at the Tee Boxes and while parked near the green.  Some folks last time didn’t seem to understand this and left their headlights on while at the tee box, so again, headlights can be turned on ONLY WHILE THE CART IS IN MOTION!!!

  9. Keep your score as there are prizes at the end.  We will gather back at the pavilion when done for the official award ceremony.

  10. For those of you that have been drinking heavily or are a member of the TWBC (Teeny weeny bladder club) – please use the restroom before returning to the pavilion.

  11. Team Captains (first name on the roster) will be secretly selected by a committee determining who was the smartest and most trust-worthy in each group, and will be responsible to make sure their team follows all of the rules above.  Including collecting the $10 from each team member at the pavilion and giving it to Jeff.  Additionally, they are responsible to pick up all of the glow sticks lighting the tee box, flag stick and inside the hole on the last hole they play.

  12. If I think up any more rules, I’ll go over them at the Pavillion before we start.

  13. The Starter will go over all of the rules prior to heading out (so you old folks don’t need to remember them, print them out, etc).

Thanks for reading this far and looking forward to having a blast with everyone!!!  As a special reward, mark your calendars in 2026 for May 20th and November 25th (yes the day before Thanksgiving) for next year’s Night Golf.

Legal Things:

Due to terrain and other ‘natural’ environment issues, all players must ride. No carts will be available to rent. For residents that don’t have carts we will try and match you up with lone riders.

No RA passes. All carts are to stay on the cart path ALWAYS.
